Work by Natsuki Otani, one of the Illustration Insight speakers
Last week’s Illustrator’s Insight was a great event, and brought together creatives from all areas of illustration. Aimed at emerging illustrators, the night provided, well, an insight into getting your foot in the door.
Rob Reed and Nick Marsh kicked off with their words of professional advice on illustration – how to present your portfolio, what to charge and how to pester agencies. Jacob Denno, editor of Popshot, then took us through some of his favourite editorial illustrations, followed by Maggie Li‘s insight into the power of illustration collectives.

Natsuki Otani and Matt Buxton let us know more about their online project and blog, Illustration Rally, while Matt Witt of CreatureMag gave us a few pointers on social media. Finally, Patrick Savile talked us through the evolution of his personal style, his work with Print Club London and his own endeavour, Frinton Press.

Once again, thanks so much to all the speakers for their fascinating and useful talks for emerging illustrators, and to Roof Unit for letting us use their incredible space. We had planned to record each of the talks to reproduce here, however, due to a technical hitch, we’re sadly only able to upload Nick Marsh and Rob Reed’s. Still, we hope you find this as enlightening as we did.
