Saturday is Record Store Day, during which you’re actively encouraged to ditch the torrents and buy local. Most of us seem to be looking forward to it, apart from the NME’s Rick Martin, who’s taking some time out from la vida loca to tell a very pissed off readership about how he’d rather buy drugs than vinyl.
Perhaps Rick was chased out of Rough Trade in the 90s with an Inspiral Carpets EP. We will never know.
Still, unless you’re Rupert Murdoch it’s unlikely that you think supporting small independent businesses is a bad thing, and with in-store gigs happening around the country – click here for a list of participating stores – it probably won’t be the futile, pointless abyss that Rick expects it to be.
